Alliance for Cardiovascular Health In Utah

What is the Alliance:

Alliance for Cardiovascular Health in Utah is the premier coordinating group for heart disease and stroke prevention and cardiovascular health promotion in Utah. The Alliance has four workgroups:

  • Physical Activity
  • Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK)
  • Community Nutrition
  • Secondary/Tertiary Prevention

Each of the four workgroups carries out the state plan objectives for reducing the burden of heart disease and stroke. Alliance members share and combine resources, ideas, and means for improving cardiovascular health in Utah.

Who is involved:

County governments, local governments, private businesses, non-profit agencies, schools, health care organizations, and anyone else interested in promoting cardiovascular health.

Why:

Obesity is a growing national problem. Physical inactivity and poor nutrition not only can cause obesity, but are leading risk factors for the number one cause of death: heart disease. Something must be done. Combining efforts, networking, strengthening existing programs, and sharing ideas is a very effective way in which the Alliance helps to increase cardiovascular health in Utah. It's a positive way Utah has to encourage and promote physical activity and good nutrition.

When:

Members of each workgroup decide on meeting times that work best for them. Some workgroups choose to meet every two months; others meet every month. The leaders of all four workgroups meet together every six months or more to discuss their progress in reaching state plan objectives for heart health.
