Before and After

From Prenatal Care before your baby is born to Well Care after your baby arrives, your baby has special needs.

Your health care provider can guide you through both stages of this special time. The health department has parenting information, videos, and brochures which can help answer your questions as well.

Following are some suggestions to help you before and after birth:

Prenatal care before birth Well Child care after birth
The most important step you can take for your health and the health of your baby is to see a doctor within the first three months of your pregnancy. Taking your children for Well Child or Well Baby visits to your health care provider is vital to ensure a healthy childhood.
Good Prenatal care will not only reduce you chances of having a low birth weight baby, but help you stay healthy, too. Your physician will be able to monitor your pregnancy more accurately. Well Child care includes a physical exam as well as guidance in many areas of childcare, including growth and development, injury prevention, diet, immunizations, etc.
Infant illness is directly related to low birth weight. Low birth weight babies are more vulnerable to physical and mental handicaps. The Baby Your Baby Keepsakes book and the Baby Your Baby Newsletters are available free of charge.
