Growth Stages of Varying Cancers

Stages of Cervical Cancer

Stages: Cancer Location:
I Cancer located only in cervix, no spreading.
II Strictly confined to the cervix.
III Lesions are detected microscopically and can be measured. The upper size of the measurement is about 5 mm.
IV The carcinoma extends through the cervix, but has not yet invaded the pelvic wall. Carcinoma as also extended into the top third of the vagina.
V The carcinoma has now extended to the Pubic Wall. On a rectal exam, there is no cancer-free space between the tumor and the pelvic wall. Tumor involves the lower third of the vagina.
VI Carcinoma has extended beyond the pelvis and has penetrated the bladder or rectum.
VII Carcinoma has spread to distant organs.

Stages of Hodgkin's Disease

Stages: Cancer Location:
I Involvement of a single lymph-node region.
II Involvement of two or more lymph node regions on the same side of the diaphragm, or localized involvement of lymph-node regions on the same side of the diaphragm.
III Involvement of two or more lymph-node regions on the same side of the diaphragm, which may also be accompanied by localized involvement of an organ or spleen, or both.
IV Diffusion to other areas of the body.

Stages of Colon / Rectum

Stages: Cancer Location:
I Strictly confined colon.
II Tumor spreads, but is still confined to the bowel walls.
III Tumor spreads with no regional lymph node metastasis.
IV Metastases (spreads) to the bowel wall with or without lymph node metastasis.

Stages of Neuroblastoma (Cancer of Children)

Stages: Cancer Location:
I Strictly confined to organ of origin.
II Tumor spreads, but does not cross the midline.
III Tumor spreads over the midline.
IV Metastases (spreads) to lymph notes, bones, brain, or lung.
IV-S Small primary tumor with metastases to liver, skin, and/or bone marrow.

Stages of Prostate Cancer

Stages: Cancer Location:
A Cancer located only in prostate. No spread. Tumor is non detectable on a rectal examination.
B The carcinoma is still confined to the prostate, however, tumor is evident on a rectal exam. Tumor is approximately 2 cm. in diameter.
C Tumor has extended through the prostate, but has not spread. Tumor still one piece.
D Carcinoma has spread to distant organs, may also be found in regional lymph node.
