Secondhand Smoke Awareness in Multiple Dwelling Units

One of the goals of our tobacco prevention education program at Central Utah Public Health is to increase owners of multiple dwelling units awareness of the dangers of second hand smoke and encourage owners to develop no smoking policies in their housing units. Educational information is available to the public for both owners and tenants at your local health department. This information includes a guide for owners on developing tobacco free policies as well as a guide for tenants to advocate for no smoking policies.

Many multiple dwelling units in the six county area are looking at policies to promote smoke-free apartments. Smoke-free apartments can be registered on the state list of tobacco free apartments. This can be very helpful to both the renter and the landlords. People are becoming more aware of the dangers of secondhand smoke and are taking precautions to see that they are not subjected to its asphyxiating and devastating properties.
